Beschreibung

Boron oxide is used as a flux, an acid catalyst and a chemical intermediate in production of boron halides, esters, carbide, nitride and metallic borides. Boron oxide has shown a promising effect on glycerol hydrogenolysis to 1,2-propanediol. It is also an essential material for the preparation of cordierite ceramics from talc. It is actively involved in the production of borosilicate glass. It is an additive used in high-temperature lubricants.

Anwendungen
Boroxid wird als Flussmittel, als Säurekatalysator und als chemisches Zwischenprodukt bei der Herstellung von Borhalogeniden, Estern, Hartmetall, Nitrid und metallischen Boriden verwendet. Boroxid hat eine vielversprechende Wirkung auf die Glycerinhydrogenolyse zu 1,2-Propandiol gezeigt. Es ist auch ein wesentliches Material für die Herstellung von Cordieritkeramiken aus Talkum. Es ist ein aktiver Stoff bei der Herstellung von Borosilikatglas. Es ist ein Additiv, das in Hochtemperaturschmierstoffen verwendet wird.

Löslichkeit
Wasserlöslich. Schwer löslich in Methanol.

Hinweise
Hygroskopisch und feuchtigkeitsempfindlich. Nicht kompatibel mit Säuren und starken Oxidationsmitteln.
