Description
Potassium periodate is used as an oxidizing agent in organic synthesis and an analytical reagent for the determination of potassium and cerium. It is also used in colorimetric estimation of manganese. It reacts with ammonium cerium(IV) nitrate to prepare tris[trinitratocerium(IV)] paraperiodate which finds application as an oxidant.

AnwendungenKaliumperiodat wird als Oxidationsmittel in der organischen Synthese und als analytisches Reagenz zur Bestimmung von Kalium und Cer verwendet. Es wird auch bei der kolorimetrischen Schätzung von Mangan verwendet. Es reagiert mit Ammoniumcerium(IV)-nitrat zu Tris[trinitratocerium(IV)]-paraperiodat, das als Oxidationsmittel verwendet wird.

Wasserlöslich.
Hinweise
Hygroskopisch. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Reduktionsmitteln, pulverförmigen Metallen und Aminen.
